I made this cap for my brother’s birthday.
He was born in 1988.
I started with a sketch in my sketchbook.
That’s where most cool things start.
I wasn’t sure about the exact size, so i put it into photoshop to make a page with some variations.
I printed it out and went for the smallest one.
A better fit, plus – less time and thread!

It got pinned onto the cap. And i got sewing, with Coats Diadem golden thread.
I peppered the paper with holes, finding the right text line, but i was definitely worth following the printout. (The “Est 1988″ was done all by hand and eye, and it was quite a fiddle.)
I tweezered away the paper. And finished it off.

I have been commissioned for other caps since posting my tutorial up online. Here is another for a newborn baby called Roland.
